Notes
Florida State posted their highest three-point efficiency so far this season at 1.40 point-per-shot (42 points on 30 attempts). Although FSU was +6 from beyond the arc, the Blue Devils were able to keep pace in three-point efficiency at 1.33 points-per-shot (36 points on 27 attempts). Duke offset the deficit from three by connecting on 23 of 25 free throws (0.92 pps) to outscore FSU 59-53 in total line points.1
Florida State led for 17:20 of the first half, while Duke led for 17:02 of the second half - there were 7 lead changes after halftime. Isaiah Evans scored 18 of his career-high 28 points in the second half.
Duke assisted on 23 of 28 made field goals (82.1%). Cameron (9) and Cayden (6) Boozer combined for 15 of the 23 dimes. Defensively, Florida State fronted the post, denied the wings, doubled the ball, and ran at shooters. Duke’s ball movement via the the lob entry into the post, the backdoor cut, and the extra pass helped generate good looks against the Seminoles’ aggressive defensive. Let’s take a look at some clips:
With FSU fronting the post, Duke counters by using the lob entry pass via high/low action. Cameron Boozer, Maliq Brown, and Pat Ngongba all do a nice job of sealing the defense (hit and hold) to open up the lob.
Florida State overplayed on the perimeter which opened up backdoor opportunities. Isaiah Evans and Cayden Boozer do a nice job cutting behind the defense and finishing at the rim.
Florida State ran at shooters and occasionally doubled the ball - Duke capitalized by making the extra pass, both in the half court and in transition, forcing the Seminoles into multiple defensive rotations. And credit Duke’s perimeter for being ready to shoot (hands and feet).
Thanks for reading, Go Duke!
