Duke’s defense allowed 50 first half points combined versus Clemson (26 pts) and Syracuse (24 pts).
Duke outscored Clemson 21-5 in the opening 8:03 of the second half to take a 52-31 lead. Duke used a 19-2 run spanning the final 2:58 of the first half and the opening 1:23 of the second half to build a 22-point lead against Syracuse.1
Clemson started the game 3 for 19 from three-point range before going 3 for 5 over the final 4:32 (0.75 pps for the game). Duke was +15 in line points on the afternoon, their best mark since +25 in the SMU game.2
Duke’s 6.3% turnover rate against Syracuse (4 turnovers on 64 possessions) was their lowest so far this season.3 After the game, Coach Scheyer remarked “Really proud of our team. I love the sharing that we had, 21 assists and 4 turnovers. I think that tells the story.” Of the 21 assists, 15 came in the second half (to just 1 turnover) on 23 made field goals en route to an 85.9% eFG after halftime. Six guys finished with multiple assists - Maliq (5), Cayden (4), Dame (3), Caleb (3), Cam (2), and Pat (2).
The Blue Devils posted their most efficient offensive performance so far this season against Syracuse - with 1.57 points-per-possession and 1.80 points-per-shot from beyond the arc. Duke has only topped 1.40 ppp in two other games so far this year.4
Cayden Boozer’s combined stats against Clemson and Syracuse: 24 points, 7 assists, 2 turnovers, 10 for 14 from the field, and +45 in 42:58 on the floor (+5 off).
