Quotes & Notes - March 15
vs. NC State (ACC Tournament)
After every game I always watch the press conference, read the quotes, and study the box score. Quotes & Notes is my wrap-up of Duke’s most recent game(s).
Quotes
I’ve been wrestling with this section for two seasons now. The way things are today, a lot of folks (myself included) consume snippets of a conversation without the context or details of the question, or read a quote without hearing the manner in which it was said. That’s why, for the most part, I’ve always included the entire answer to a question. But even those quotes aren’t fully representative because there are other answers I have to omit in favor of the overall length of my post, and reading it does not convey tone or body language. So, here are links to the full press conference and the full quotes from last night’s game. My apologies for the change, but it’s one I’ve been considering for a while.

Duke Quotes vs. NC State (ACC Tournament)
Stats
Duke was outscored 18-8 in second chance points (13-6 in the second half). The Blue Devils shot just 5 of 20 from three, with 0.75 points-per-shot matching their second lowest efficiency of the season from three-point range. Despite a 44-34 advantage in points in the paint, Duke was only +2 in paint points after halftime. NC State was +9 in line points (3P+FT), and the Wolfpack led for 32:22. Duke’s 0.99 points-per-possession marked just their fifth game below 1.05 on the season. State had five guys score in double-figures, including Mohamed Diarra’s 14 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. Kyle Filipowski (28/14) and Mark Mitchell (18/8) combined for 46 points and 22 rebounds, while Tyrese Proctor posted 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 0 turnovers in 40:00. Congrats to NC State on the victory.
Notes
In Case You Missed It: J.J. Redick had Devin Booker on the The Old Man and the Three podcast this week. Devin was candid about his mentality and approach to the game, and I especially love his competitiveness. Booker was a member of the 2015 Kentucky team that went 38-1, and is currently averaging more than 25.0 ppg for the sixth consecutive season.
Next Play: Duke will find out the details of their NCAA Tournament match-up on Sunday.
Thanks for reading, Go Duke!
