After every game I always watch the press conference, read the quotes, and study the box score. Quotes & Notes is my wrap-up of Duke’s most recent game(s).

Duke Postgame Press Conference vs. Houston
Stats
In such a close game, it’s not surprising Duke and Houston were even (or close to it) in several categories including: points in the paint (26-26), two-point efficiency (0.88 pps), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.00), second chance points (Duke +2), and fast break points (Houston +2). The Blue Devils committed 9 of their 14 turnovers in the first half, giving Houston a 10-5 advantage in points off turnovers before halftime. Duke was +12 from three-point range and assisted on 14 of 20 made field goals (70.0%), their fourth game of the season at 70% or better. LJ Cryer led the Cougars with 15 points, and J’Wan Roberts added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kyle Filipowski posted 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Jeremy Roach scored all of his 14 points in the second half. Ryan Young was +18 in 23:18 on the court. Coach Scheyer praised Young’s contribution after the game, along with Tyrese Proctor’s defense and steady play. Proctor had 9 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Notes
I feel terrible for National Player of the Year candidate Jamal Shead and his Houston teammates. Shead was unable to return last night after exiting with an ankle injury at the 6:38 mark of the first half. I wish injuries were not part of the game, and wish him a speedy recovery as well.
In Case You Missed It: LeBron James and J.J. Redick recently premiered the first two episodes of their new Mind the Game podcast, where they talk basketball IQ and strategy (and drink wine). I highly recommend giving it a watch, not a listen. They diagram certain X’s and O’s, and show game clips for context, including the difficulty of guarding an inverted pick-and-roll.
Next Play: Sunday March 31 | 5:05 pm CBS | Duke will face NC State in the Elite Eight.
